Established in 2004, the University College of the North is an institution devoted to community and northern development and reflects the Aboriginal reality and cultural diversity of northern Manitoba. UCN offers students quality education where they can earn certificates, diplomas and undergraduate degrees. More than 400 qualified faculty, staff and Elders provide the best of instruction and support for 2,348 students. There are campuses in The Pas and Thompson, and a network of regional centres in 12 northern communities.

Transitioning from a Community College to a University College, UCN is in the second year of a five year strategic plan that identifies seven priority areas:

Based on these priorities, and under the leadership of the President & Vice Chancellor, UCN will secure and direct resources, take action and measure progress as the organization moves forward.

 

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Governing Council, and working collaboratively with the Learning Council and the Council of Elders in a tri-cameral governance model, the President & Vice Chancellor is an innovative and dynamic educational leader with a proven ability to provide administrative direction in a culturally diverse academic setting.  As the face of UCN, the President & Vice Chancellor builds and nurtures positive relationships with industry partners and key community stakeholders while strengthening the performance and reputation of the organization.  This individual will provide leadership and direction to the senior executive team, and guide strategic initiatives forward.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

As the ideal candidate, you have a Masters Degree or PhD and a commitment to strategic direction that is reflective of the mission and vision of the organization.   You are respected as a leader in your community, and have an understanding of Aboriginal cultures, and remain current on issues impacting northern communities.  You are known for your ability to coach and mentor others to achieve excellence in a diverse, ever-changing workplace.  An exceptional communicator, you can relate well with others at all levels both inside and outside the organization both orally and in writing.  Additionally, you are known for your high level of political acumen and sensitivity to multiple and sometimes competing priorities.
